KPL Kids @ Uptown Lofts

Are you curious about the technology behind Kenosha Public Library's new children's library? Let me share a glimpse of my role in this exciting project.

In my role, I had the privilege of managing the comprehensive technology infrastructure in the Kenosha Public Library's new children's library. This encompassed a wide range of systems and equipment to enhance the library's offerings and provide a seamless experience for patrons and staff. Key responsibilities included:

  1. AV Systems and Room Automation: We implemented cutting-edge audiovisual systems and room automation technology. This integration allows our library staff to transform the room ambiance at the touch of a button. Whether it's hosting a lively story time, screening a movie, or conducting a maker space program, the room adapts within minutes to create an engaging environment for children and families.

  2. PA System: A state-of-the-art Public Address (PA) system was put in place to ensure clear and effective communication within the library. This is essential for announcements, events, and creating a safe and enjoyable environment for our visitors.

  3. Automated Materials Handling System: We introduced an automated materials handling system to streamline the check-in and check-out process, making it more efficient and convenient for library users.

  4. Wi-Fi Connectivity: Robust Wi-Fi connectivity was established to support both patrons and staff. This ensures that everyone can access online resources, search the catalog, and engage with digital content throughout the library seamlessly.

  5. Tablet Lending System: We implemented a tablet lending program, providing children with educational and interactive devices for learning and entertainment while at the library.

  6. Security Cameras and Access Control: To maintain a safe environment, we installed security cameras and access control systems, enhancing the security measures within the children's library.

  7. Desktop and Tablet Computers: Staff members are equipped with both desktop computers and tablets, allowing them to assist patrons efficiently from any location in the library.

Furthermore, we've made it a priority to ensure that our new library is accessible to all. The audio system is integrated with a hearing-impaired amplification system from Ever Sound, guaranteeing that library programs are inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of their abilities. This commitment to inclusivity underscores our dedication to serving the diverse needs of our community.

The implementation of these technologies in the Kenosha Public Library's new children's library reflects our dedication to providing an enriching and inclusive library experience for children and their families. We're excited to see the positive impact it will have on our community.
