“All people, regardless of origin, age, background, or views, possess a right to privacy and confidentiality in their library use. Libraries should advocate for, educate about, and protect people’s privacy, safeguarding all library use data, including personally identifiable information.”

AI Usage Policy
The Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Usage Policy at Kenosha Public Library, the first of it’s kind of a Public Library in the United States, establishes a framework for the responsible and ethical use of AI within the library system. It acknowledges both the potential benefits of AI—such as enhancing workflows and productivity—and the risks associated with its irresponsible use. The policy prioritizes safeguarding sensitive data and patron information while setting best practices for AI implementation in library operations. By adopting this policy, the library demonstrates leadership in ensuring AI tools are used transparently, ethically, and in alignment with public trust.
